Isoforms of human CDH23 precursor protein

Displayed below are 6 cdh23 precursor protein isoforms. These isoforms are all expressed in the wildtype human, and isoforms result from alternative splicing of the mRNA. This does not imply that each isoform can lead to a fully functional cdh23 protein. It only indicates that in vivo cdh23 is generally functional, and does not lead to deafness.

It would be very interesting in the future to test whether or not each isoform can give rise to functional cdh23 by themselves, or if one isoform predominates the production of functional cdh23.

Isoforms 2-4 only have sequence knockouts, whereas 5 and 6 have both knockouts and sequence alterations (Uniport)

the 3000-3100 range shows definate coil-coil presence in cdh23. A coil coil protein is one in which two identical amino acid segments wrap around each other. (http://cis.poly.edu/~jps/coilcoil.html)
