Two proteins for Two Purposes
In searching for the cadherin 23 human protein, multiple sequences were displayed. The smallest, CDH23, is the cadherin protein itself, in a finalized in vivo state. However, such finalized proteins are not found in the database for other model organisms. In order to be able to compare amino acid sequences between organisms to establish a predicted phylogeny, both the purified protein and a "cadherin-like" protein are listed below, and cadherin-like 23 was used in all phylogenic trees.
